A debate on prostitution and human trafficking is being hosted in Hounslow on Wednesday (October 14).

Led by a panel of experts on the subjects, The Not for Sale summit, in support of No Prostitution Day, UK Anti-Slavery Day and EU Trafficking Day, is free and will be held at the Civic Centre at 8pm.

The discussion will be chaired by Hounslow councillor Sue Sampson, cabinet member for domestic violence, whose sister was murdered by her estranged husband.

Ms Sampson said: “We’re proud to be taking a stand against prostitution and human trafficking, as well as all other forms of abuse against women.

"We will not tolerate it in Hounslow; we will support legal action wherever possible, we will protect vulnerable women and their families and we will do whatever possible to ensure survivors of any form of abuse can live their lives free of fear.”

The Not for Sale debate is part of a two-year partnership programme between Hounslow Council and various partners, including Hounslow police operations Kerb Safe and Pathway team tackling the exploitation of women; and Eaves, a charity supporting women who have experienced or are experiencing violence to enable them to recover and regain independence.

According to the police, in the past 12 months, seven men have been arrested and around 40 have been sent letters warning them they may be prosecuted under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Charity Eaves has supported around 20 women who have been referred to the partnership since it was set up a year ago.
